Glide

WHAT?
Glide is Guyana’s first official roller skating event, built to bring the joy, energy and nostalgia of skating to people of all ages and skill levels. What started as an idea with a hand-drawn sketch has grown into a recurring annual event with a full visual identity behind it.

WHY?
A first-of-its-kind event needed a brand strong enough to introduce the concept to an entire country, build excitement from nothing, and hold up across every touchpoint from social media to the skating floor.

FOR WHO?
Everyone. Families, young adults, seasoned skaters and complete beginners, united by the energy of something new happening in Guyana.

About the Project

Glide is Guyana’s first official roller skating event, and this project built its visual identity from the ground up. The client came in with a hand-drawn logo sketch and a vision. Everything else, the brand system, the digital presence, the event materials, was developed from that starting point.

The work covered the first event and has continued into the second, with branding that evolves each year while keeping the core identity intact.

The Goal

The brief was clear in feeling if not always in detail: bold, retro, nostalgic and fun. The brand needed to capture the spirit of roller skating, that particular mix of throwback culture and pure energy, while feeling fresh enough to excite a local audience experiencing it for the first time.

Equally important was building a system that could grow. With Glide intended as a yearly event, the visual identity had to be flexible enough to take on a new theme each edition without losing recognition. Colour, typography and core brand elements needed to stay consistent even as the surface treatment shifted.

Strategic Insights

The logo had to do the first introduction. Before a single event took place, the logo was the brand. It came from a client sketch, which meant the creative direction was already rooted in their vision. The job was to take that sketch and build something polished, ownable and ready to carry an entire event identity.

A new event needs a brand that makes it feel real. Guyana had never had an official roller skating event before. The branding had to communicate legitimacy and excitement at the same time, giving people a reason to show up to something that had never existed before.

Built to evolve, not to be replaced. With two events now completed and more planned, the brand system was designed with longevity in mind. Each year’s branding introduces its own visual flavour while the retro aesthetic, colour palette and core identity elements keep Glide instantly recognisable edition to edition.

Solution

Starting from the client’s hand-drawn concept, the logo was developed into a final mark that captured the retro, high-energy personality of the event. From there, a full brand system was built: guidelines to keep the identity consistent, business cards, a custom website, and a growing library of digital and printed materials spanning social media graphics, promotional flyers, tickets, event signage and merch.

For 2024 and 2025, the event branding was refreshed with its own visual direction while remaining unmistakably Glide. Each year built on the last, adding depth to a brand still in its early stages of becoming a Guyanese institution.

The Results

Two events. One growing brand. Glide launched with a cohesive identity that made Guyana’s first roller skating event feel like it belonged, and has continued to build on that foundation with each edition. The visual system is strong enough to evolve without starting over, and recognisable enough that the audience already knows what they’re coming back for.
